Educating
staff about privacy policies and procedures forms a crucial part
of the implementation stage of a compliance program. Training
should be conducted once policies and procedures for compliance
have been established and should focus on educating staff about
the content of privacy laws, why such policies and procedures have
been developed and how to implement them.
Privacy
Law Consulting Australia ("PLCA") offers three levels of
staff training:
-
Senior
Management – focusing on what their organisation’s
obligations are, understanding the policies and procedures
that have been developed, developing a culture of privacy
awareness and the legal and commercial consequences of failing
to comply;
-
Privacy
Officers – focusing on understanding the content of privacy
laws, the requirements of the role and, in particular,
obligations regarding the handling of privacy complaints and
requests; and
-
Staff
– focusing on understanding the requirements of privacy laws
at a general level, increasing awareness of privacy issues and
discussing company privacy policies and procedures in detail.
Training
can be conducted either in-house or on-site. In addition to
PLCA’s premises in Adelaide, training facilities are available
in the following capital cities:
-
Sydney
-
Melbourne
-
Brisbane
-
Canberra
-
Perth.
